The academy runs from 6pm until 8pm every Friday evening. Players are taught the basics of pool from how to hold a cue correctly, how to stand to play a shot, shot selection, use of side etc. etc.
There are 3 coaches at most sessions, Regional team manager Alan Williams, Regional player Adrian Tristram and Rhys Williams (Wales Youth International).
The Academy players have already played several matches against Vetz Club Bridgend.
January 2020 will see the club enter at least 1 team in the WPA Academy League.
Coach Adrian Tristram is a forward thinking young man, who has a superb record in local pool, having won the Neath League singles title on 8 occasions and been beaten finalist 5 times in the last 15 years. Adrian has high standards and even higher expectations for several of the academy players.
Coach Rhys Williams is an up and coming player who has represented Wales at Youth level, and was a member of the Welsh Youth team that beat Scotland in the final of the World Masters in Bridlington last April.
The aims and objectives of the pool academy are to help to improve the local young pool players, and to help them to reach the highest level possible. The academy philosophy is not only to help improve the youngsters as pool players but also to help them to improve their outlook on life and their character.
The academy is open to players between the ages of 5 and 18 and currently has about 30 regulars.
A team from the Morriston pool academy competed in the recent Oaktree 5 man team tournament and won the Plate Competition.
